My journey as a writer started on the page. Pencil, paper, and thoughts that only script could translate. With modern day school and a lot of expectation, my journey quickly shifted onto the computer. Now my words filled screens, instead of pages. Along the line, I became sick. Doctors would inform me that I have a neurological disease, and the screens… well the screens are one of its main triggers. Devastated, how am I going to overcome this obstacle? My entire structure of my writing existence took place online. Years after this diagnosis, a good friend would take me to a book shop in Decatur, GA. Would tell me that they have typewriters for anyone to type on. And life would make sense again. A month after experiencing the cathartic powers of the typewriter, I would get my own, and the experience has been so liberating. Now I take my typewriter with me everywhere. I busk with her. I do freestyle typewriter poetry at events. And I sit with her at home. Typing away, in the safe space that she is. Here are some excerpts of my typewriter work created for me and a few clients. ENJOY!
